I promise you won’t be over flooded with emails from me. But, I definitely want to let y’all know when exciting things are happening.
During the early stages of my painting creations, I typically start with generously applying wet charcoal onto the canvas. Allowing me to silently forget a lot about the final results, a carefully chosen amount of Chaos in the energetic movements, alluring the darkest tones to be added first. I talk about the beginning in such vague detail as this is the most beautiful and important time for my painting.
Letting the charcoal, become a inky drippy mess, these are the moments that allows my paintings expectations, to fall directly out the window of my built up normalcy, and instead it rides it’s own wave of exploration.
I like to think of the whole painting process as a means of exploration, but I’m constantly reminded that if I take too much time perfecting this stage, I will not have given the painting the room to exist in the way it was spoken to me to be painted.
Colors, of course are a given in most artists speech when speaking of their art so ill be brief. The more thought I put into each color the more we can dive down a rabbit hole of meanings, but by contrast my chosen color specs range towards the illuminating and moody colorspace to create each piece. My work consists of a merger of exterior voids into a new interior form, Meaning I pull my inspirations from dreams, and the unavoidable patterns nature creates.
My work must be credited from the sources as to which they are derived from, the influence of living artists around me, as well as the great deceased artists.
Ive always been drawn from that of Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro movement, in contrast to that of Salvador Dali’s dreamlike scenes. I pull interior scapes, into a new frame of mind. I am not a realism artist, I’d call it expressionism at its finest. Sometimes, my paintings speak to me in strokes of violent splashing and strokes, other times a fine curated portrait.
Michaela, Like most artists. Found art to be her language.
Michaela, Grows up to attend University. and checks the Bachelors Degree, box.
After her Degree, she grasps at more education to succeed in the big bad world.
The deeper she dives into her practice, the more she finds herself creating labyrinths, of the mind. Using her bold color choices and brushstrokes to depict an interior dialog. Michaela, uses her own experiences to paint a metaphorical desired connection from childhood to enlightenment.
